URBAN SCARS

The key spot of the museum‘s extention at the Kaiserforum in Vienna is the split of the enormous Maria-Theresa statue and its rotation of one half. As a result caused by this action, the whole square is detached from its symmetry to gain a dynamic and harmonic relation to the environment.

Furthermore the Museumsquarter is connected with the Heldenplatz at the opposite by a pedestrian bridge and visual axis are exposed. Simultaniously the Museum of Natural and the Museum of Art History are connected through the inside of the statue. From the entrance in the fundament of the statue the visitors are led through only one or both museum extensions on a path which hooks up with the already existing museums and are tangent to buble-like exhibition spaces.
